Breeding dogs is definitely not for the faint of heart. These last few months have been a real roller coaster. Not only do I have no clear idea when Sinco will come into heat but there are two parties involved and things can happen and change. When things were not going to work out with our first choice Myra found another possible stud dog who I like even better. I did meet him at ASCA Nationals as well.
"Tag" lives 5 hours north of Vancouver. His information is listed below:
MRE Jus Taggin Along DNA-CP STDc OTDds RTDc
Black White and red factored
born 5/14/2004
OFA (Good), Elbows(Normal)
and CERF (clear 2009) MDR1 +/+

While Myra and I are very excited about this we are faced with a lot of logistical hurdles. Originally we thought we could fly Myra and Sinco out to Vancouver. But then we learned that there is a narrow mountain pass between Tag and Vancouver that is frequently closed for hours to days in the winter. So even if we could get them to Vancouver (with winter olympics starting Friday...) we may not get them to Tag or Tag to them. Sigh...
So now we are investigating the possibility of doing AI. Tag has been collected and there is frozen semen available and they are also willing to do fresh/chilled semen to ship to us. My concern is learning more about the AI process for Sinco and the cost that may be involved in doing this. I have an appointment with a reproduction specialist here in the cities tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon. After that Myra and I will have more details on which to base a decision of how to proceed.
I really don't want to wait until Fall to breed her, I was really planning on Spring puppies and put a lot of things on hold to make room for it in my life. But I know breeding doesn't always go as planned.
Stay tuned for more updates.
