Checkers, Checkers, Checkers

For a little over a week now, Checkers has been consistently ringing the bell on the back door to let me know when he needs to go outside. Ok to be honest…he’s ringing it a lot more often than that, so maybe I should say he’s letting me know when he wants to go outside. Maybe the novelty of the “power of the bell” will wear off before winter! ;)

My cat has also been getting to have a little more freedom around the house too. She can be on the arms/backs of the furniture and he will leave her alone (usually). We’re still working on leaving her alone when she’s on the floor or the cushions of the furniture. I think all Checkers wants to do is play…but my cat isn’t having any of it. She has been very thankful over the last few weeks that I have a bar height dining room table and some baby gates she can escape over.

Our puppy class has been going very well. He is doing a great job learning all that is asked of him. I think he’s now getting the idea that the clicker means that’s what I want and the treats are coming. He does best when I click to capture a behavior. He’s not the type of dog that frantically offers a ton of behaviors in rapid succession, he seems to want to figure it out before he tries it. Next week is our last week of puppy life class and then we’ll be taking a puppy gym class as well as a puppy kindergarten class at a different training facility, so he gets several different experiences with places and puppies.

A few weekends ago he got to meet a 2 year old aussie, Boomer, that was here with a friend of mine for an agility trial. They had a wonderful time running and playing together! It was fun to see him run and chase with a new dog. That same weekend he got to see Sinco, Carmine, & Disney again. It was a lot of fun to see the pups play together. We only had open space for them to play in, so had to keep them on leash, but I think that had a great time romping around, and getting wet. Checkers definitely ended up on the bottom most of the time. :) Checkers also had a fun reunion with Annelise & Pam! He absolutely remembered them & got very excited to see them again!!!
