Hi!
Again, I still haven't figured out blogging and updates. Argh. But this is interesting. I have a feeling that for Ki, he went through this within a few weeks of being home. It was loud noises, buses, trucks and even people (but only in the dark).
I've worked with him a lot and Jane has been incredible. Last weekend we took him to the Anoka Halloween parade. Four hours of people, cars, kids, noise, confusion, marching bands, candy wrappers, little kids, seniors, multiple fire trucks and sirens, etc. HE WAS A ROCKSTAR!!!! The WORST he did was jumping up and licking the facing of a total of four people sitting down, out of hundreds, as we walked by. I got a little nervous because a girl, maybe three years old that he jumped up on said that he bit her... oy. Well, it was a kiss but she was sitting behind us. For over two and a half hours she was all over him. Her parents tried to tell her to back off and give him space but he did soooooo good! Of course, I monitored but she was petting, hugging him, etc and he just kept giving her kisses and sitting or laying down for her. And he loves feet so her silver glitter shoes were even more fun for him to lick! There was even a baby a couple feet away that he gave a couple kisses to, super gentle. An older vet who was thrilled to pet him, about five kids and seven or so adults that we sat by all loved him and kept raving about how good he was! (And five of my friends, too).
He was the star of our little corner of the show! There were a couple photogs for the fair around us as well that snapped him up in shots. The overall comment was that he loved people and was such a good puppy.
We have made huge progress on everything Jane has gone over with. He is so, so smart. We still work on the dark. He has gotten a lot more confident and we play now outside as a routine, in the dark. BTW, He retrieves excellently. Never straight on, but with his last minute sideways wiggle and then "drop". Perfect though! But, I have concluded that he really can't see well in the dark. I think that started the fear. His sense of smell is not as high as a GSDs would be. But he does tear around and move more confidently in the dark. Again, I am sure he can't see as well because he has plowed into me on accident a few times. I have the bruises to show it. Dark, plowing puppy, grabbing a rolling chair for balance, landing on kennel... :P Dark, running puppy towards door, doesn't see me in the way LOL.
His energy has INCREASED two fold or more in the past couple weeks. I don't know if anyone else is going through his. He has been steadily gaining weight and strength but the energy went through the roof. So there is a lot of play and running around and working on training. I wish I lived on a farm and could have him working with me all day. I know he is just right for that. Who knows... maybe sooner or later. Bottom line is that he is sooo happy. We've been joking around that I could teach him to say "I love you" like the doggie funny videos. He almost does it now and will imitate my actions in noise.
He was 28 pounds earlier this week.
Anywho, he is a rockstar and super duper happy!!! Thank you!!!!
